Understanding New Zealand’s Global Impact Visa Requirements
Introduction
Are you driven to make a global impact? The New Zealand Global Impact Visa (GIV) is designed for individuals who seek to create meaningful, positive change. Offered in partnership with the Edmund Hillary Fellowship (EHF), the GIV aims to attract visionary entrepreneurs and innovators who can tackle societal challenges and inspire growth.
Role of the Edmund Hillary Fellowship (EHF)
The EHF partners with Immigration New Zealand to select mission-driven individuals who bring unique perspectives and solutions for economic, environmental, social, or cultural issues. The fellowship supports innovators by fostering high-impact ventures within New Zealand’s start-up ecosystem.
Each year, EHF selects 100 individuals globally, along with applications from New Zealand-based entrepreneurs. The selection occurs twice a year, making it an exclusive yet valuable opportunity.
Eligibility Criteria for the Global Impact Visa
To be eligible for the Global Impact Visa, applicants must:
- Gain EHF Acceptance: Secure an invitation from the Edmund Hillary Fellowship.
- Submit Visa Application: Apply to Immigration New Zealand with your EHF acceptance letter.
- Documentation: Provide proof of English language proficiency, medical and police certificates, and other credentials.
- Financial Requirement: Demonstrate NZD $36,000 in savings to support yourself and any family members for the first year.
Note: Only 400 Global Impact Visas are issued over a 4-year period, so it’s essential to act quickly and thoroughly prepare your application.
Visa Duration and Conditions
The Global Impact Visa is valid for 36 months, with the following benefits and conditions:
- Residency Pathway: Apply for permanent residency after 30 months with EHF sponsorship.
- Employment Flexibility: Work, study, or establish ventures anywhere in New Zealand.
- Family Visa Applications: Partners and dependent children may apply for separate visas.
- EHF Support Requirement: Maintain active engagement with the EHF to retain visa validity.
- Welfare Ineligibility: GIV holders are not eligible for welfare assistance during their stay.
Adherence to visa conditions is critical for residency eligibility. Failure to meet these conditions could impact your pathway to permanent residence.
